Granville Family Support Service
The Granville Family Support Service provides support, information and referrals to families with children under 12 years who reside in Granville, Guildford, Harris Park, Rosehill and parts of Merrylands. We currently have staff who speak Turkish and English.
A family can refer themselves, or be referred by another agency. They will generally be placed on our waiting list and will be assessed as soon as a place becomes available. If accepted, a caseworker will be assigned and will visit the family at home on a weekly basis.
Some of the issues we have assisted with include:
- parenting classes,
- setting routines,
- appropriate discipline,
- dealing with challenging children,
- liaising with government departments eg. Centrelink, immigration, housing and DOCS,
- finding accommodation and family therapy
We assess each individual family to ascertain their unique needs. Our goal is to assist the family to become nurturing, self supporting and resilient.
Families generally stay with our service for between six and eighteen months, however this is negotiated depending on needs.
This project is funded by the Department of Community Services.
