Links to Learning
Links to Learning Program (Links) works directly with year 9 to year 11 high school students who are identified by their school as ‘at risk’ of dropping out of school early. Links identifies the students’ abilities and interests, and enhances participation in education or accredited training. The program currently works with three local schools: Auburn Girls High School, Granville Boys High School and Merrylands Public High School. Links works with around fifty students at risk, one day a week for one year, following up on their transition the following year.
The aim of Links is to:
- boost young people’s confidence,
- expand their vision of education and future prospects and
- develop their employment related skills such as teamwork, communication, self-management, planning and organising, cross-cultural understanding, initiative and problem solving skills.
Links to Learning delivers innovative and creative activities to motivate young people. These include:
- numeracy and literacy tutoring,
- career pathways,
- arts based programs,
- self-esteem building,
- industry visits, and
- access to school holiday recreation activities.
This project is funded by the Department of Education and Training on an annual basis.
